Seorang pemburu meteor menghabiskan 20 tahun mencari bongkahan batu antariksa. Kini ia berhasil menemukan mineral yang nilainya 10 kali lebih berharga dibanding emas.
Batu mungil ini ditemukan di utara California, Amerika Serikat (AS) di lembah Sierra. Batu antariksa ini merupakan serpihan dari bola api raksasa yang meledak dengan kekuatan sepertiga bom atom yang dijatuhkan ke Hiroshima, Jepang.
Menurut keterangan profesor dan ahli meteor John Wasson dari UCLA, batu temuan Robert Ward dari Arizona ini memiliki berat 10 gram. Menurut Gold Gram Bars, batu mungil ini diperkirakan bernilai lebih dari US$1.000 (Rp9,185 juta), seperti dikutip DM.
Membicarakan temuan ini, Ward mengaku ‘langsung sadar’ menemukan meteorit langka yang dikenal sebagai Carbonaceous Chondrite (CM) setelah melihat bentuk permukaan batu temuannya.
"Ini salah satu benda tertua dan terlangka yang pernah ditemukan," tutupnya.
